IB2 – System of a common card account

The typical situation - each bank has some basic accounting system and card back-office. Clients’ current accounts are serviced in one system and card accounts in another one. What does it mean for a client and for bank employees?

Bank clients’ and operators’ impressions can be expressed in just two words ‘difficult’ and ‘long’.

•    In order to issue a card for a client who has a current account in the bank, it is necessary to open a separate card account for him and moreover to do it in both the systems – accounting and card one.
•    If a client has money on his current account and he needs to pay for his purchases or to withdraw money from the account via an ATM, the necessary amount is to be transferred to his card account before.
•    If a client has money on his card account and he wants to replenish his deposit, it is necessary to transfer money to his current account before or to withdraw a proper amount and bring it to the bank in cash.
•    The bank can allow a client to replenish his card account in a cash office, but a client cannot withdraw money from such an account in a cash office because of a risk that an unauthorized overdraft may occur.

Besides we should consider that a client often has more than one account in the bank (e.g. a salary account and an entrepreneur one). Such a client acquires two, three or four cards depending on a quantity of his accounts. He carries them in his wallet and saves pin-codes in his mobile phone memory that makes it easier for potential criminals to find out them.

But it is very convenient to use a payment card, it becomes a more and more popular gadget and nowadays a client wants to use his card not only as means of payment, but as a key for his money management.

A client wants to have just one card and an operator wants to have just one work system.
